Mary had a little goat

These little guys are all over the townships and are very free range, though perhaps to their detriment given the circumstances. Goats are used for slaughtering at Xhosa ceremonies, for eating (every single piece is eaten - they blacken the heads on a grill near the train station for consumption just like that, with a fork) and as payment for lobola, or bride price. One of the kids in Hope Scholars will next week travel to the Eastern Cape for the slaughtering of a goat in honor of his official introduction to his ancestors, which will follow the feast. Wish I could go.
