Ketchikan

They say that Ketchikan – ‘The salmon capital of the world’ - gets 65 days of sunshine a year, and 300 of rain. Today was not one of the 65!

Today was Memorial Day in the US, so a national holiday. Most places were however still open.

The rain was really heavy, pretty much all day. It has certainly made the town look lush; lots of greenery and flower displays. We had a walk along the front and around the town. There are a number of totem poles dotted around. We walked along the Creek Street trail, where the water was very much in full flow, and saw the salmon ladder (although it is of course the wrong time of year for the salmon returning to their spawning grounds). We visited the Totem Heritage Centre, which was a really interesting museum where some of the oldest totem poles are preserved indoors.
