Sunny Saturday

As it was a beautiful day weatherwise, we decided to nip out early to the local Fort Kinnaird shopping park. However, the best laid plans and all that. What should have taken a10 minute journey, took over an hour on the way back, due to the southbound A1 being closed because of an accident. This meant that all southbound traffic had to divert onto our local roads to Musselburgh causing a complete logjam, compounded by the fact there are temporary lights on this local road. 

The upshot of all of this chaos meant that as we were crawling along the road, it gave us time to look at the local houses, noting this particular cottage with a plaque to Bill Douglas, an actor and director who was born and brought up in the cottage.

As part Bill Douglas’s legacy to filmmaking he also amassed a considerable collection of books, memorabilia and artefacts relating to the history and prehistory of filmmaking, which is now housed in a The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum  at the University of Exeter, in Devon (where he latterly lived). 

Anyway, who would have thought that traffic chaos would identify today’s blip.

Later this afternoon, we are off for afternoon tea in our neighbours garden, which will be nice as we can also pet their adorable Siamese cats.
