Mixed feelings

Went to Arromanches this morning and visited the excellent museum there. Well laid out and superbly narrated. Strange to look out on the (Gold)beach and see the Mulberry Harbour and think of the engineering and determination and terror that happened there.

And then see commemorative oven mitts for sale (along with all sorts of other stuff including cheese!). It seems a bit cheap and money-making.

A quick coffee and a delicious flan de coco, and then drove along the coast tothe American Cemetery. Lots of work going on preparing for the bigwigs coming this week but it didn’t detract from the solemnity.

Then on to Pointe du Hoc and Omaha beach.

Never been thanked before in a supermarket but then again never been in Normandy 80 years after its liberation. (See extras)

And one extra just for Midgehole Dave.

Another wonderful yet emotional day.
