The beholder's eye

A really nice find!

This beautiful little moth is a Blotched emerald (Comibaena bajularia), a moth from the family Geometridae. It has a scattered distribution in England and Wales and is listed as 'local'. It is not found in Scotland and Ireland.
I was really pleased to find this sitting in my moth trap when I emptied it at 4am this morning, but as soon as I saw it, it flew off into my sitting room where I empty the trap (much to my Husband's annoyance). Determined to 'bag' it i set off in hot persute, pot in hand waiting for it to land, While I was chasing the emerald, a Large Elephant hawk moth also escaped from the trap and started whizzing round and round the room at speed, my staffi X Pee Wee jumping all over the place trying to catch it!!!
It took about 5 minutes to get the situation under control, talk sternly to the dog, and 'bag' both moths!
I have to say, even though I like moths, a hawkmoth in your hair is NOT a nice experience!!!! but it was all outweighed by catching a moth I have longed to see for years and years!
Oh.....and well done Andy Murray, you so deserved that victory!
