Here's the stuffed chicken that The Lovely Ange inherited from her Mum. Not content with the faded black with white spots colour scheme, The Lovely Ange decided to spruce it up with fabric paint-on colour.

I know black isn't really a colour.

So whilst a leopard can't change it's spots a chicken apparently can. I wonder if the chicken knew at birth that it would spent the first years of its life sitting up in a kitchen in Wellington in spotted splendour, only to be posted South, shoved in a washing machine, painted black all over and dropped head-first into an antique chamber potty to dry. There's no dignity being a stuffed chicken in our house.
