En route to Fairy Dell
Bright & breezy and perfect for a wander up from the campsite to do a little circular route. I took the children to the Stone Man’s cottage, which is still going after all these years! We used to go as children. They chose a little souvenir each & we couldn’t resist a pot of Arran icecream to enjoy after our picnic. We had a beautiful view over Lochranza to eat before carrying in round the headland to the fairy dell then back down to the coastline for the walk back along the shore. Max was excited to spot a large stag beetle on the path, we found wild garlic, bog myrtle & plenty of sealife in the rock pools. Max was hoping to see seals or even a basking shark (a big optimistic bit not unheard of here)
Max also decided we had to go and visit the castle ruins again and , despite me initially saying no, he lead us on an expedition through streams & bogs to try and get there! (See extra)
We didn’t succeed but ended up with very wet feet after quite an adventure. We did however, come across an oyster catcher nest, with very noisy parents and a chick just hatched!
A much nicer evening back at the site; we actually met another vanfam family and the kids played together into the night. Hot chocolate before bed & very tired children all round.
