Grand Day Out...catch up Blip - 3

On Monday we had the promise of drier weather and thus took the opportunity, Ms.Arell suggesting two places in particular.

Setting off we were greeted with several bouts of the wet stuff but they came and went pretty sharpish by the time we reached destination numéro un, the magnificent Kelpies!

I found the way that the bone structure had been captured on these giant artworks was something else! Walking around in the changing light sees their moods & expressions change, the left hand Kelpie - Duke - in particular becoming quite playful when viewed from below..I was really taken with him *^_^*

Spot numéro deux was across to the western side of Falkirk to visit it's amazing 'Wheel that elevates boat traffic 24 metres from the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Union Canal leading to Edinburgh.

I love canals and in particular their infrastructure, much of which was conceived & constructed with very basic technology in the 18th century. The Falkirk Wheel being thoroughly modern was fascinating to observe in operation, it's concept being quite simple whilst being made possible by newer technology, construction techniques and very clever design work. The Wikipedia entry is fun read, revealing that the lead architect modelled the gear system using his 8 year old daughters Lego, how cool is that?!

After a lovely lunch in the cafe watching what appeared to be some glitch (the wheel stopped several times whilst rotating although nobody in the caissons above seemed concerned!) we considered the ride home and a plan was hatched to cross the Kincardine Bridge and follow the coast road through Culross which was 'very' nice!

We navigated our way to what my Gal speculates may well be the old car ferry port in N.Queensferry where we parked the Girls on the approach ramp and found a 'bench with a view' to shoot the breeze from for half an hour. I think it was at least double that in truth ;-D

Afterwards, returning to Chez Ms.Arell for a quick cuppa & a change into more civilian attire, I returned the favour of a pillion ride - Biscuit taking us to a local pool for a swim, sauna & steam room before rounding off the last of the daylight with a bimble the long way home for supper.

A grand day out. Fin.
