Skagway

We sailed up the Taiya Inlet and docked at Skagway - 'Gateway to the Klondike' - early this morning.

It's very much a one street frontier town, which boomed back in the gold-rush days. Now very much reliant on tourism [the ship pretty much docks at the end of the main street, and the White Pass railroad into the Yukon is a major attraction], I guess it's experiencing a different type of gold rush nowadays.
Walking around was quite like being in an old Western movie; the pavements/sidewalks are all boardwalks, just as you imagine from old photos and movies, and the buildings still have that old West look to them. Like Juneau yesterday, jewellery stores are in abundance.
It was a nice little town to walk around and has some local walking trails too; thinking with our stomachs, as always, we particularly enjoyed the Klondike Doughboys that we bought - like a big flat cinnamon-sugar covered doughnut. Delicious!
