Fava beans
I am so delighted by these beans that I have to give them more room in my journal.
Laid in the ground last October, they grew bigger and bigger over the winter . They were meant to be cut down and spit under to enrich the soil but when I wanted to do that , I noticed that all the plants were blooming. The flowers are black, the beans started growing standing upright. That was in early spring. Now the lowest are ready to harvest and I picked about a pound of them. Very easy to open , each little bean is lying in a silky bed of fur, I peeled out 135 grams.
There will be many more to come. What a delightful vegetable, some people cook them and then peel off the little skins around each bean, I love to leave them as they are, they taste delicious raw!
