Koli

Weather is fantastic and we are free until next Monday - why not to make a trip and see places thet we both want to see?!

Day 1

We left at noon and of course, Peetu came along. Our first destination was Koli. Koli is National Park by the lake Pielinen, in Lieksa, in eastern Finland.

450 km, 5 h 30 min without breaks.

We had lunch in Jyväskylä. Next break we took in Kuopio. We had a short walk in Kuopio harbor and had coffee with mustikkakukko.

We also stopped by in a supermarket and bought picnic snack for evening.

We arrived to the hotel around 20:30 (Break Sokos Hotel Koli Kylä), took our stuff to the room. A moment later we headed up to Koli's highest hill, Ukko-Koli. From a parking area there is a funicular, it was a fun ride! Then some climbing and voilà! The breathtaking views were ahead of us! It has been said that national landscape of Koli is the essence of Finnishness - it's a feeling that can only be experienced in person.

Koli has inspired many painters and composers, notably Jean Sibelius, Juhani Aho and Eero Järnefelt. Painters discovered Koli in the 19th century and it has been called one of the national sceneries of Finland.

We enjoyed views and had picnic until the red sun almost set under the horizon. The cuckoo kept calling long periods and we even saw it!

+27,6°C, sunny
