Sallys in the tower

or is it sallies?  The sally is the bell rope, the word is from the French SAILIR which is the action of a jumping rope.    There are six bells in the church at Haselbury, the oldest was cast in 1735, the next in 1884 and the others in 1949.  The heaviest is just over 349 kilos and the lightest 180 kilos.  I used to bell ring at St George's Fordington when I was young but was never brilliant at it so used to ring either no 4 or no 6 the heaviest.  The problem is if one makes a mistake the whole village hears it!  But I rang them for several years and enjoyed it.  The bell ropes were in a little room half way up the church tower, these in the photo are on the ground.

E came over for a cuppa as she has a viewing on her house she has just put on the market and it's best that she is out when the agent and the people come to look.  No rain today!
