Parliament Buildings

Today I took a walk around the Stormont Estate, which is very close to where I was brought up.  I often wondered why the parliament building was named Parliament Buildings when in fact there is only one building.  The answer is simple, it was modelled on the parliament buildings in Ottawa, Canada, where there was a building on each side of the parliament building, one to serve the Commons and the other to serve the Upper House.  But in our case they ran out of money and the buildings were scaled down.  I also used to work in the building some years ago, happy memories!
