Piano-pruner needed!
Outside the Paarabola Arts Centre in Cheltenham lurks this piano, abundantly foliaged. It is, sadly, not playable - the keys won't depress.
We were there today to hear a fascinating concert cum research project by The Clerks called intriguingly "Cocktail Party Polyphony". The Clerks are a vocal sextet (2 each altos, tenors and basses), and presented new pieces by Christopher Fox that explore the problems of coping with simultaneous different texts. They interspersed these with mediaeval pieces that have two or more different texts sung at the same time - quite why it was done isnot clear to me. Anyway, we, the audience, were given tasks to do, sometimes pressing keys on a keypad, sometimes writing down what we heard. Rather unlike your average concert! One woman remarked to me she'd rather have stayed at home and watched Wimbledon, but I really enjoyed the experience and it gave much food for thought.Anyway, I expect she caught some of The Match afterwards if she didn't live too far away! We got back to Abergavenny in time for Cathaber to see the last two points!
