Mount Tomah

On the way home from Bathurst we visited the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden in Mt Tomah. It’s a stunning setting and I can’t believe I have lived in Australia for 50 years and have never been here.

This is a protea flower in the Garden, also stunning in its way. I found a rather fanciful description on the web which said that the Proteaceae family are one of the oldest flowers on the planet, with ‘first sightings’ dating back some 300 million years. I wonder who or what made the ‘sightings’?
