a lifetime burning

Flutterby

This was an attempt at trying to photograph a butterfly in flight.  It will come as no surprise that it's actually quite difficult to get enough depth of field to have the insect sharp from wing tip to wing tip while still separating it from the background.  Needless to say you also need a pretty high shutter speed to avoid the wing blur.

This Brimstone didn't give me long to have a go, and the slightly blustery conditions definitely didn't help.  It's probably my best attempt to date, but I could do with a butterfly in slightly better condition, this one is a bit ragged around the wing tips.  Still it is a suitably difficult challenge and something I might have another go at, at some stage.
