Day 38 Camino Palos de Rei to Buente

23 km cornered today. As I have mostly focused on the external journey of the Camino I thought I’d focus on the internal journey. Life as a pilgrim can be tough mentally though like any journey, it has its ups and downs. We are staying in shared dorms recently which brings its own challenges. Sheets and pillowcases are often made of disposable fabric which is ok and practical but doesn’t have the feel of cotton fabric. Toilets and showers.are a real lottery and learning how to get undressed and showered and then dry within a tiny cubicle is a skill I’ve managed to pick up. Sleeping in the shared room is another ordeal. There is the snore symphony (I am probably as guilty as anyone! ), the slurps, burps, farts…. and that’s just my pilgrim chum! In he early hours (5:30-6am) the morning rush starts. Torch beams, rustling, zips fastening and pilgrims getting ready to shuffle off and start their daily walk is all part of the morning ritual. These are some of the challenges but there are also some great highs. Todays blip is an example and was a rare opportunity to dangle our feet in a foot pool. It was a great balm after walking for so many hours!
