Not Going Out
The blue tit chicks didn't fledge today as expected, I'm not surprised the parents thought it best to keep them all together in the box for feeding given the constant rain and cold we've had all day (19.2mm so far and only 12C max). The first two to hatch should have gone on Thurs and the last to hatch today. When I spoke to the pet shop owner, he said the ringers have been reporting the same thing, smaller blue tit broods, hatching later and staying for longer before fledging, with two larger chicks and 4-5 smaller ones. The chicks are getting cabin fever though. so when I went out to put more live mealworms out, I got a photo of this chick looking out of the 'side window'. I've added an extra and you can hopefully make out how cute they are all sleeping together. There's another weather warning for thunder storms for tomorrow - poor blue tit parents, the chicks look bigger than them at the moment as the parents are so wet when they turn up with food. My virus is at the nauseous / stomach pains stage - I googled it and there's a new strain of norovirus doing the rounds and the virus is reported by the UKHSA as being at its highest level at this time of year for five years. I did some more admin on the pc this morning and watched a film this afternoon. I'm just about to put the heating on for an hour!!!
