How a face changes second to second. And who’s to say a photograph captures the essence of a person depending on the arbitrary second chosen. It’s something that portraitists must have to ponder long and hard. Was it Gertrude Stein who told Picasso that his portrait of her looked nothing like her to which he replied, ‘Ah, but Madame, you will.’
