Medlands Beach, Great Barrier Island, NZ

This shot today is really an informative post as opposed to anything creative or artistic. I have taken this shot to give you some idea as to the positioning of my beach house on this idyllic island. To the far right of the picture you should be able to make out the whitish looking roof of a house sitting on top of the sand dunes overlooking the beach and sea. That is the beach house. The roof is not painted white but is un painted grey corrugated iron which I have preferred.

The beach is a long white sandy beach the stretches all the way around the bay to the foreground of the picture.

If you were to travel straight out from the beach you would find nothing but open ocean until you hit South America.

We get big ocean swells coming into the bay and it is a very popular surfing spot as are many of the beaches on this coast of the island.

The fishing is fantastic on this island with abundant species of fish available straight out to sea from the house. I can also get crayfish off a reef only about 200 metres off the beach in front of the house.

We have had the house for about 19 years now and love every moment we are here.
