Between fen and mountains

I had planned a day in the kitchen. It did not start well last night when I went to the fridge for the sourdough starter only to find that, in a senior moment last week, I threw the remainder away without keeping any back! So today I began another starter and made bread using packet yeast. I’m not sure how it will turn out as the two packets were a year out of date and the bread is only rising slowly. I also went down to the market to buy a mountain of vegetables for ratatouille. I spent the morning chopping the vegetables and cooking. I now have enough for 11 meals to begin stocking our recently acquired chest freezer. More bulk cooking is in prospect.
