Godmorgen Danmark
Louisa's main birthday present was a daytrip(?!) to Copenhagen, and today was the -whole- day for it.
A ridiculously early start to get to Manchester for our 6am flight*, landing in Copenhagen at about 8:30 and straight to passport control where I finally got a stamp in my passport* after a bit of confusion from passport control that we were only staying for one day and going home.
First stop was Nyhavn (and the obligatory tourist selfie with the colourful buildings) for Danish breakfast/brunch. We wandered along the harbour to the Amber museum (don't bother) stopping on the way for a waffle stick*. Then a wander up through Amalienborg and up to Kastellet, looping past The Little Mermaid (pointless) before visiting the Danish Resistance Museum that was really good.
Louisa found a cool street food market over on the other side of the harbour so, after a bit of examining of timetables and maps, we got the harbour bus* over to Reffen. After a quick recee of the area our first stop was the Mikkeller brewery bar sitting outside with a beer in the sun* the way it should be. Then off into the market* for food and more local beer. I don't know how she manages to find these cool places to visit but I'm very grateful for that particular skill.
We then got the local bus back into the centre and visited the Planetarium (and rest our feet) for a film on volcanoes and an exhibition with a strange star room*. Heading back towards the Central Station we popped into Tivoli Gardens (glad it was on our Copenhagen card), which is amazing, and got treated to some kind of operatic show*. Then it was time to head back to the airport for pastries and home and more passport control interrogation, Louisa got asked "You don't like our country?" when they noticed the leaving on the same day.
That wasn't the end of it all though. As the plane was beggining to taxi out a man stood up and announced, "I need to pee". Cue arguments with the air crew and ultimately the plane pulling back in and the man being kicked off the plane. We eventually landed an hour late and crawled back into bed literally 24 hours after my alarm had initially gone off.
It was a brilliant day and definitely memorable for all sorts of reasons.
Happy Birthday Louisa!
