A day in Victoria, Vancouver Island

Had a lovely day in the City of Victoria, Vancouver, which is very engaging it has to be said.

Had a lovely wander from the cruise terminal to Fisherman’s Wharf before going downtown to see the local brass bands playing in front of the British Columbia Parliament (see extras). Apparently, tomorrow is Victoria Day, which is a public holiday in the city.

Victoria Day is observed on the last Monday preceding May 25 to honour Queen Victoria who is known as the "Mother of the Confederation’. The holiday has existed in Canada since at least 1845, originally on Victoria's natural birthday, May 24.

After wandering along downtown, we got a water taxi back to Fisherman’s Wharf, before walking back to the ship.

Off to Seattle and home tomorrow.
