In the Bluebell wood

After a delightful lunch with friends we went for a walk in Kinclaven Bluebell wood which is stunning at this time of year and is a very popular place.

We walked along the paths of this ancient Oakwood cared for by the Woodland Trust which is carpeted with native Bluebells - these are very delicate and it can take centuries to carpet a woodland floor so the presence of bluebells is an indication of an ancient woodland.

I picked up a leaflet and was surprised to read that the native Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non- scripta) is a member of the asparagus family.and can be distinguished from Spanish Bluebells by only having flowers on one side of the stem .

With us was little T the grandson of our friends who is in the blip and he had a wonderful time.
