Red-backed Shrike

Social media noted an influx of these birds- 18 on North Ronaldsday alone, so I headed out in the evening to scout around the edges of Kirkwall. I cycled along a grassy bridle path and stopped the bike. I thought a patch of gorse promising and raised my binoculars- right onto a beautiful male shrike! I might have got close but for a deep ditch which was probably jumpable but I am reluctant to risk such manoeuvres while carrying cameras etc.
