Public bus to Muggia
We were all packed up and down at 8 for breakfast at the hotel. The breakfast choice is superb I must say. Eggs are perfect plenty choice of fresh fruit which I have with the jug of runny plain yogurt they seem to have in this part of the world. Local little cake and loads of pastries and fresh warm bread. All the cheeses, meats and chopped veg that the other Europeans love (but I don’t).
I went a wee walk while S went and filled the car up with petrol. It was very peaceful at the river sitting in the sunshine.
We checked out and said goodbye to Nina and thanked her for a great stay and she said I have a gift for you both do you want honey or chocolate. Chocolate we said in unison! Local honey would have been great but wouldn’t have got through the security I think.
We were getting the Flix bus back to Trieste staying in an apartment not far from our last one for the final two nights of the holiday. It was in a magnificent building on the fourth floor. We were there at 11 and it was getting cleaned but we asked to drop off our bags. We then got the No 20 service bus to Muggia further down the coast half an hour away. We had a wander to the harbour watching the small boats and a wind surfer. It was perfect weather not too hot and the little old town was buzzing. We sat outside harbourside and ate the most delicious gelato, one of the best, and a wander in the old town with its narrow streets.
Bus back, they are every 20mins and cost €1.50 really our public transport is shameful. Cutbacks everywhere and if you live outwith a town you are stuffed!!
We went out for tea - to an Asian restaurant for a change sitting at the side of the Grande Canal. The dishes arrived I was about to take a photo when a flock of gulls arrived taking me by surprise and one swooped as quick as winky and stole a few slices of my teriyaki chicken !! I swore and flapped causing a commotion and the waitress came and took my bowl away to make a new one! Bloody vermin they are these gulls and no fear and massive! The food was delicious I must say.
We had a walk down by the quayside, there was a big cruise ship in from Corfu. Watched the sunset and wandered back to our apartment and yes, totally bushed so conked out around 10!
Nice to be back in Trieste it’s a lovely city.
