Lunch stop
We bought a cake and some rolls then started our walk just before 10. The distance was17 km according to the gps and the altitude gain 560m. It would have been truly spectacular if it hadn’t rained without a break for the whole 7 hours we were out. Thankfully we found the climbing hut near our highest point open and they had a roaring fire and did fantastic apple strudels. We carried on up to the Russian Chapel but it was closed so retraced our steps and sat under the overhanging roof of a deserted house to have lunch in the dry. By this time we were wet to the knickers. Goretex may be waterproof but the openings for hands feet and heads are definitely points where the rain gets in.
The return was quicker than the ascent and we were back at the hotel by 5. Shame the heating wasn’t on and they didn’t have a drying room. Bedroom cluttered with wet clothes.
Just time for a shower before a beer…..
