Afternoon walk,

Around lunchtime, we took a walk to The Dell cafe, where we ordered a glass of wine and sat outside. When he'd returned from his morning errands, PY said it was hot outside, but that turned out to be a case of feeling quite warm when walking around. I'd left without a jacket - thinking it was warm enough for a t-shirt - it was far too cold to be sat in the wind. Eventually, we had to call it a day and head back to the flat. The picture doesn't have a good indication that it's chilly.

Just after 5pm we took the bus to Newport and walked to Quay Art, where we saw the BBC's Bob Harris and journalist Colin Hall talking about the songs The Beatles gave away. Before that, however, was dinner at the table we'd booked at Quay Arts. The Southern Fried Chicken Burgers were lovely. After about an hour and a half, we took our seats upstairs. We were sat on the side of the stage with a sideways look.

Colin and Colin were talking in support of Colin's book, based on a BBC documentary by the same name, about the songs The Beatles wrote for other people (such as Billy J. Kramer, Cilla Black and Mary Hopkin). In effect, most of the discussion was about Lennon and McCartney - and even then, mainly Paul. George Harrison was mentioned towards the end. Did Ringo not write anything for other people? The show was interspersed with audio from the documentary, and it's really well put together. But these two can talk. There was fear towards the end that people would miss their transport home.

We'd ordered interval drinks, which was fortuitous as the bar area flooded during the first half. The pre-ordered drinks were served in the centre's art gallery: walking around with a glass of wine made me feel like I was at a preview event. I'm keen to go back to see more of the art.

We did make our bus, five minutes to eleven. We were home before midnight, newly informed about the history of some Beatles songs.
