Hobbs's Run

1903

Since I acquired the luxury of being able to choose my own photographic subjects, I have found myself drawn to images whose real subject is the prevailing light ... or else some optical peculiarity for which light is responsible. In this case the dying sun is striking the front of this building at the perfect angle to make it come alive.

In fact this is the Lawson Community Hall, first constructed in 1903 as a trade union facility. That makes it 121 years old, sufficient (in this country, at least) to afford it heritage status.

The street front, here, used to look rather more appealing than it currently does but the highway widening back in 2012, meant that either the building had to go ... or else the break down lane had to be reduced, the verge narrowed and the front of the structure shaved off.  After some polite discussion (yeah, right) the latter alternative won out.

Finally .. do you notice that strange sky colour? YES!!!
