Best Before ????

Once a year, regularly,
I realise just how much
Closer I am getting to
My best before date!

Every year I avow
That next year I
Will not mark this
Wretched occasion!

But next year comes
And there I am again
Wallowing in the self
Pity of senescence!

The trouble is that
My brain and my
Body are in conflict,
In mortal combat!

My brain says that
I am only twentyish,
Whilst my body argues
The seventyish that I am!

So which do I believe?
Am I the one or other?
I don't care, at least I
Can still think about it!
