Zodiacs took us to the Fjortende Julibreen glacier today where we could hike a good distance to a beach like area. The glacier is about 16km in length and covers an aea of around 127 square kms. It rises to more than 30 metres above sea level. As is normal at this time with May temperatures rising, ice is constantly being calved and floating chunks are surreal worlds passing by with their crackling sounds.
Today from the ship we spotted a polar bear, albeit way too far away for decent photography, but magnificent to behold at a distance. It was feasting on a small reindeer, of which there were also quite a few. We are in hope of closer sightings tomorrow!
