Yesterday S told me that kingfishers (such as this Kotare) have two fovea in each eye allowing them to see over their beak with one pair of fovea (binocular vision) and out to the side with the other fovea at the same time giving them a simultaneous view almost all the way around them. Not only good for hiunting their prey, this prevents them from being sneaked up on from behind.
