Stirling Old bridge
This evening we had an evening walk over Stirling Old bridge and along the river Forth. This iconic view of Stirling with the Wallace Monument in the background epitomises so much of the history of this city.
For the Battle of Stirling bridge in 1297 where the Scots successfully fought off the English invaders under the leadership of Sir William Wallace and it became the first major victory in the Wars of Independence.
Later the film Braveheart (1995) garnered enormous box office success and boosted tourism in Scotland, particularly Stirling. I heard of one American visitor, besotted with all things Wallace, walked into our local independent bookshop, sadly closed, and bought every book that mentioned him.
