Railway Station Clock, Swindon.

I had to collect my mother in law from Swindon train station this afternoon. I haven't been there for some time and had forgotten that the forecourt was being revamped. It now looks so much better than before. It also now has a station clock- this clock used to be in the town centre, but was removed and kept in storage.

This is the report from the Swindon Advertiser:

The time-piece was officially named the Jubilee Clock to commemorate the Queen's golden jubilee and the Duke of Edinburgh came to the town to see it.

But is more famously known as the Millennium Clock.

When the £50,000 work of art was unveiled on February 28, 2003, it played Christmas music, including Silent Night and Star Light Star Bright on the half-hour and Valentine's Day love songs, like Dream A Little Dream, along with the occasional shopper announcements.

Soon after the clock was put in place the minute hand fell from its spindle and it took three days to repair it. One face remained either 30 minutes fast or 30 minutes slow for some time.
