Annotations

Sometimes we have to buy second hand books for the library because that’s all that’s available for out of print items. And sometimes there’s only one copy available online, or at least only one copy that doesn’t cost silly money. We try and avoid buying copies that say they’re ex-library because they’ll have stickers and stamps in them, and we’ll try and avoid buying any that have annotations written in them. So this one was described as in “good” condition but it is absolutely covered in writing, fortunately all in pencil, but I’ve never seen anything with this much writing in it! It came from the States so there’s no point trying to send it back, and anyway it was the only copy available. So we’ll try and rub out most of the pencil markings, and let the reader know that it’s the best we could do. It came in a cloth bag with a small tea towel (with Simmer Down written in it - a message for us?!) and a handkerchief. Very odd things to send along with a Greek dictionary!
