Like a Batz out of Hell?
Non!
15 mins in a modern, fast ferry (west coast Scots islanders can only dream!) took me to Île de Batz, a completely charming settlement which has that very particular seasonal tourism island feel, the moment you get off the boat.
It reminded me of Martha’s Vineyard in the US, and Great Cumbrae in Scotland, which have that 1950s simple pleasures vibe. You know, families beach sandcastle building, picnicking, ice cream licking, paddling and cycle touring, all set to a backdrop of boats put-putting about their business, the heady scent of wildflowers and the light tang of salt spray. Heavenly.
