Concrete and fabric

Today I went to the Art Gallery of NSW to meet up with a friend and see a free movie, Pasolini's 1966 'The Hawks and the Sparrows'. Blessed is the film that's only 90 minutes long. It could have been even shorter.

On the way there, in the interest of finding a solid thing for Wide Wednesday, I decided to take a closer look at this strange sculpture near the gallery. 'Mobius Sea' was created in 1986 by Richard Goodwin. It won Vision Australia's sculpture award, but it remains controversial if it was made primarily for blind people to experience. Its lumpy looking surface is depictions of people who appear to be writhing about in something sticky and I don't think that mixing fabric into the concrete was a good idea. I seem to remember that years ago it was white but something's got into it and now it looks at best neglected, at worst awful.
