Day 14 Camino Villafranca to Atapuerca
Todays stage took us to the town of Atapuerca. A strange name but it turns out a famous town which an unusual claim to fame. The caves of the Sierra de Atapuerca nesrby contain a rich fossil record of the earliest human beings in Europe, from nearly one million years ago and extending up to the Common Era.
Todays blip are a set of stones as you approach h the town. area. I thought they might be standing stones but it transpires the stones and their location are late 20th/early 21st century. The stones are dedicated to persons or groups involved with the Atapuerca discoveries.
I had a pretty rough night in a hostel that was basically a tin can. My throat was rasping and I had a temperature which made sleep difficult. Pain killers were fortunately to hand.
