The Dream of America
We had no idea how moving and amazing today’s concert of the Bellingham Symphony would be. The music was by three living composers and was part of the annual Harmony from Discord series. La Conga del Fuego Nuevo by Arturo Marquez was great fun to listen to with its Mexican folk roots and modern flair. We loved the Crouching Tiger Concerto by Tan Dun. After intermission was Ellis Island: The Dream of America by Peter Boyer. That was so timely and moving. Local actors recited the words of immigrants who came to the US via Ellis Island while the orchestra played and there were videos and still photos of immigrants. It was a concert like no other I've ever seen and I will remember it as a high point in my concert going experiences.
