Roll With It

Another ‘Life’ Experience

Another early start, earlier than usual.
Up at 5:00am, coffee and toast and out the door by 5:40. I arrived at the Polling Station at 6:00am and this is where I stayed for the next 16.5 hours.
The polling station was in an infants school which meant for low chairs and tables!
Here in Cornwall we voted in the Police & Crime Commissioner election only. As a Poll Clerk I found the duties less than arduous, given the low turnout we averaged 3 voters per hours a turnout of 8%.
The team consisted of a Presiding Officer, a Poll Clerk and two security staff and we got to know each other pretty well over the course of our day together.
My opinion, I found it incredibly frustrating that people chose not to vote, not for the usual reasons, we understand apathy, the main reason probably the complete lack of any engagement, campaigning or information from any of the three candidates. It’s likely that some were not even aware that an election was taking place.

Todays photo, as photography in the Polling Station was prohibited this is one of the many unattached stacks that dot the countryside, this one is on the outskirts of St Austell.
