Sunshine Time

Back to the grind of sorting through cupboards and drawers again. This time I had to go through everything in what Mum used to call “the machine drawers”. Since the late 60’s, she had had an electric sewing machine which folds down into a wooden work table with three drawers. Here at the bungalow, which doesn’t have a huge amount of space, she had this table by the window in her bedroom and used it as a dressing table. And so it had become filled with more than just sewing things, but also her very personal items like hair clips, makeup, brushes, cotton buds and so on. I said “sorry” to Mum every time I put an item in the rubbish bag. It felt so disrespectful and uncaring. By 5 o’clock I’d reached my emotional limit and was feeling very upset. The mobile pinged with a text from my friend Alison, who was just checking in to see how I was coping. I called her, and we had a nice long chat which cheered us both up no end. We thought about our hairdresser Liz, who was due to have her spinal surgery this afternoon, and hoped all was going well for her.

I took today’s pictures at lunchtime, when I went out into the sunshine for a bit of down time, and noticed this fly chilling out too. The distinctive bright green hornbeam leaves looked beautiful with the sunlight filtering through them.
