Threads in Creation

Travelling down to see dad, another long journey so I decided to stop along the way. I hadn’t realised that Lichfield was so close to the M6 toll road so I decided to visit its wonderful three spired cathedral. I haven’t been since the 1980’s.

There was an exhibition on, Threads in Creation, twelve very large textile panels all sewn by Jacqui Parkinson, and illustrating the story of Genesis in the bible. Three years work, miles of black thread, eight million stitches, it is on a three year tour of cathedrals which ends this year. I thought the panels were superb.

This panel illustrates the lines in Genesis which begin - And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky”.
