MAD Festival day 2

A festival is not a festival without a nice party at the end of the day.

You can leave that to the players of Collectif Malunés. Luke and Arne organised a kind of church-like opening (see photo 2) of the evening every night after which the audience could dance the night away. After an hour came a second act in which they, and Kelly, passed around glasses of Tequila. Visitors only got that if they wanted to lick the salt off the circus people's bodies.
One of the reasons why I have photos of this is because I have known Luke and Arne since they graduated from Fontys in Tilburg more than a decade ago. I was there during my first circus photography assignment. And because I have known them for so long, and I know a lot about circus and street theatre, I can get so close without bothering them or the audience. That's one of the best things to experience as a photographer, I think.
I also find it very special to capture the nightlife. I don't have to drink alcohol or anything for that. It's very special to observe others and capture those moments.

This photo appealed to me the most because it is actually such an intimate moment of total surrender.
