3, 2, 1 Lift Off!

Today the kids finally got to release their weather balloon. Apparently, last fall the weather was cold and windy and the balloon didn't perform well. Today was just right. In the bottom right photo you can see some boxes on the ground. The kids put things in there to see what would happen to them if they go to a high altitude and then come down... I think there were some hotdogs in one and some watermelon... lol. I don't know what all else was put in there. This was done through the University's Space grant... High-Altitude Balloon Program – Wyoming NASA Space Grant Consortium (wyomingspacegrant.org)
They brought all the equipment. It was so cool to watch it fly away. There was a tracker on it and we could see it reached 62,618 feet altitude. It traveled 80 miles before it came down near the eastern Wyoming boarder. They university folks will go out and get the ballon then the kids will get the boxes back and get to check out how things look in there.
I'm really glad it Friday... It's been a fun but busy week.
