Cowslips and Clouds
The show of cowslips on Magdalen Hill Down Reserve was recommended on social media, so off we went.
The expanse was far more than I could have imagined. About a third of the site is original downland, and within the last 20 years two extra areas were claimed. Some of the cultivated and rich soil was removed, grazing patterns changed and this is the result. There were sunny spells, but I'm as content with this moody sky as I would have been with blue.
Interestingly this site was covered in tented accommodation for 50,000 troops during the first world war, outnumbering the 20,000 local population.
Thanks to Bikerbear and Miranda for hosting FlowerFriday and WildflowerWeek.
