Barnard Castle

To get from Newcastle to Kirkby Lonsdale, there is a very simple route you can take, which basically involves the A69, the M6, and the A65.

However, for a small investment of additional time, there is a plethora of alternative routes, and the one we drove today took in Coalburns and Stanhope, as well as Barnard Castle, where we paused for breakfast. 

I've driven through Barnard Castle in the past, but never stopped here before. I had an odd feeling about it, and after a moments thought I realised it is forever sullied in my mind by its association with Dominic Cummings.
