Birthday Girl

This is Millie, my holiday companion du jour. Today is her birthday, and we spent the day walking up verdant hills and Tuscan pathways, in pursuit of some final Florentine treasures.

After exploring a beautiful church and taking coffee in a lushly sunlit courtyard, we meandered through the south bank of the river to discover the Palazzo Pitti (opulent and indulgent, just like the Medicis who lived there) and the Santa Maria Novella Church (beautiful and serene). Mind you, we got chased out of the church by one of the guides who wanted to "get to know Millie better"!! She ran away shaking her head and politely saying, "No thank you". I'd have been much less demure, and much more...vicious.

We finished the day with dinner in a beautiful trattoria recommended by the guidebook, where we ate tomato salad and pasta and had to give up on the idea of dessert! This was a shame as they had tiramisu on the menu and we quite fancied it at the start!!

Our Italian adventure has come to an end, sadly, and tomorrow, we fly back to England. Tonight, we are packing. *sad face*
