A time for everything

Gilmore Ponds

Sunday 28 April
It was good to get back to our church this morning, and we were playing handbells as well as singing in the choir. As for the rest of the day, there were three musical events we could have chosen to go to. One was the Cincinnati Choral Society, a community choir we have heard once before, and the program sounded really interesting - I had heard about it on WGUC our classical music station. That was this afternoon, as was an event one of our church choir members was involved in. The one we finally chose to attend was in the evening and was Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble a professional ensemble, that our church choral scholar Matt sings with. It’s conducted by Howard Helvey, who is choir director and organist at Calvary Episcopal church in Clifton, and is quite a renowned composer of contemporary church music. I mention these events to illustrate the wealth of music and other cultural events we have available in the Cincinnati area.
Going to the evening performance left us the afternoon free to fit in a walk at Gilmore Ponds. The evening concert was long, and varied, as there were two other ensembles singing, and also two organ pieces performed by Isabelle Demers, an amazing organist from Quebec. It was followed by a cake and champagne reception, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble. It was gone 10.30 before we left, and poor Matt has to be up for work at 4.30am on Monday mornings!
