My childhood dream
We visited Wimborne model village today, and also the Minster church. There was a display at the village entitled ‘Pre-Lego’ and I was delighted to see that they had my favourite type of building sets that I used to build on a Sunday afternoon with my Dad in the early 1960’s. We used to have to put metal rods into the holes in the base, then slide the brick sections, windows and doors down in the right order to build the small houses that I owned. The featured house was one that I dreamed about having, but at that time my parents would not have been able to afford to get it for me. But, having seen it in real life it is way smaller than the illustration on the box (and obviously in the leaflet that I had! That’s a past sadness I can now get rid of, ha ha!) We had delicious cake and tea in their cafe and also had a lot of fun playing with a model railway set which even had a cliff railway and little cable cars which you could set working!
The Minster church had some very interesting ancient monuments and artefacts. Unfortunately there wasn’t much of the original Norman church left. Still well worth a visit though.
I had to give up on extras yesterday as they would not load the right way round! Most of them didn’t load correctly today either, but I have managed to post two correctly -
Little shop in model village. The village reflected Wimborne in the 1950’s and was created around 1952.
