San Diego is a beautiful city and we could happily have spent several days there. During the morning we watched the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier with a crew of 5,500 pass by after a six month tour of the Pacific, saw huge multi billion yachts with their own helipads, a large aircraft carrier which is now a museum and sculptures of Bob Hope addressing soldiers nearby and watched couples trying to copy the tall iconic “Unconditional Surrender” statue of the Sailor who kissed an unknown girl on his return after WW2. We travelled across a long bridge to the luxurious hotel and community at Coronodal where they are unable to bathe at the beautiful beach due to the immense pollution from nearby Mexico.
There were many sculptures and very good street art which is encouraged by the city and then we met friends for lunch at the Old Town. David and almost all of his family have stayed with us several times so it was delightful to share memories and meet his wife. They took us to more attractive areas around Balboa Park including the studio in the Spanish Village Art Center where she made ceramics and introduced us to other artists and their work.
